Jamie Hunt (Principal)

About Mrs. Hunt

I am honored to serve as the principal of Waxhaw Elementary School and to be part of this wonderful community. I believe in order to create a strong student-centered school we must focus on building strong relationships with families, staff, and students. I believe every child deserves to feel safe, cared for and inspired to reach their full potential each day.

I bring eighteen years of experience in education, having served as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, and assistant principal. Before joining Waxhaw Elementary, I taught first and fifth grade in Rockingham County Schools, where I also served as an assistant principal for four years. After relocating to Union County, I taught at Marshville Elementary and served as assistant principal at Walter Bickett Elementary. I am a proud graduate of UNC Greensboro, where I earned my degree in elementary education with a minor in music and later completed my master of school administration through the North Carolina Principal Fellows Program.

Outside of school, I’m a mom to three girls who attend UCPS schools and keep me busy on the softball field, in the cheer gym and in the pool. At Waxhaw Elementary, my goals are to ensure a safe and nurturing environment, maintain high academic standards, and strengthen the partnership between home and school. Together, we will continue Waxhaw’s proud tradition of excellence and create an environment where every child thrives.

Tiffany McKinney (Assistant Principal)

About Mrs. McKinney

Tiffany McKinney is a native of Indian Trail, North Carolina, and has been a dedicated educator within Union County Public Schools (UCPS) since 2005. She began her career teaching third and fifth grades at Antioch Elementary School, where she taught for 11 years. Mrs. McKinney also served as a curriculum facilitator at Walter Bickett Elementary School for two years. She later taught fifth grade at Indian Trail Elementary School for three years.

Committed to furthering her expertise, Mrs. McKinney earned her Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Wingate University. Before joining Waxhaw Elementary, she served as the assistant principal for seventh grade at Monroe Middle School for three years.

Mrs. McKinney enjoys spending quality time with her husband, Andy, and their two children, Noah and Abigail. In her free time, she loves fishing, camping, and cheering on her children at their sporting events.

Passionate about education, Mrs. McKinney is dedicated to fostering positive relationships and enriching the learning experience for every student.
